For Naked The Hague I want to photograph about 250 people, clothed and naked. I talk extensively with each participant to get a good understanding of why they want to participate. I’m especially interested in hearing about your body image; what makes you (un)satisfied with your body? Has that always been the case?
The photos of everyone who has been photographed will be on display at the exhibition. A selection of photos from 100 participants will be used for the book.

As soon as the available photography days are known and your registration has been confirmed, you will receive an email or text message with the invitation to choose a date and time that suits you. 1 hour is reserved for each participant.
My son Greg Friedler was a photographer who began a series of 4 books which depicted people both clothed and naked. (“The Naked Series”). One of his dreams was to have other photographers create similar books in other cities of the world. Greg died before he could produce other “Naked” works.
When Leon Schroeder proposed to publish “Naked Rotterdam” myself and my son David were very supportive as we knew Leon would carry on with the concepts Greg dreamed of.
Why Naked The Hague? In our time of polarization between rich and poor, men and women, of people who belong and people who are excluded, the question is whether we still see each other as human beings. A lot is shown and exhibited on social media, but are we really showing ourselves? Showing look how successful I am, how beautiful, divides people. Leon Schroder's work is therefore a breath of fresh air.
Naked Rotterdam has been in my studio for several years now and is eagerly read by everyone who comes by.
First the curiosity and then comes the connecting message, because with clothes on people distinguish themselves and when we are naked we turn out to be quite the same…..
Nudity has become such a taboo, and why?
Leon Schroder has created something sublime with Naked Rotterdam, and that deserves a successor!
